Chief Compliance Officer (m/f) – Insurance / Reinsurance sector

Our client operates in the Reinsurance sector and is located in Luxembourg City. The company has been recently rated by AM BEST after 6 years of existence. The company is part of an international financial group that employs over 1,300 staff on a worldwide basis. In Luxembourg, the Company is looking to expand its team in its Compliance and internal Control department, one of the mandatory key functions of the insurance market and to strengthen its management team.  Our client is currently looking for a Chief Compliance Officer who will also lead a team.


Reporting to the regulatory approved Executive, the Chief Compliance Officer will lead the Compliance, Legal, and Internal Control Department. He or she ensures that the business processes and governance framework adhere to all relevant legal and internal regulations and guidelines.

Duties include the supervision of a Compliance Officer and an Internal Control & Quality Officer at a minimum, the collaboration with the group compliance departments, the membership of the Compliance Committee, and the direct access to the Board and/or the ultimate responsibility of the compliance and internal audit key function within the company if the case request.

The main accountabilities and deliverables are divided in 3 parts (Compliance, Internal Control and reporting activities) are detailed here below:

  • Takes the overall responsibility of the compliance and internal control activities as defined and required both by the insurance laws and by the mother company.
  • Contributes to the development and updates of control processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Become the Anti-Money Laundering representative of the Company and ensure the independence of this function among the over key functions and the avoidance of any conflict of interest in general.
  • Work in close relationship with the regulatory approved Executive on all topics linked with Luxembourg insurance regulatory correspondence and regulatory watching alert to be read for implementing mitigation actions in due time if required by a change of law.
  • Manage and organizes the compliance and internal control department. Develop and optimize the existing human and technical resources to ensure its sustainability and prepare its expansion to support the increasing requirements which will be driven by the coming 5-year expansion plan.
  • Be in Luxembourg the person of contact of the Compliance and Internal audit departments of the group.
  • Liaise with external and internal Auditors (of the group and local third-party provider) to ensure their independent reviews of the AML / CTF program are in full compliance with the rules.

  • Master’s degree in law, finance, insurance, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5-8 years of proven experience in relevant departments (compliance and internal control) preferably in the European non-life insurance market.
  • An experience in the Luxembourg Insurance/re-insurance market is mandatory or at least in Luxembourg Financial institution.
  • Several years of experience in working with CAA regulations or at least with a European insurance supervisor. Capacity to review legal wording of the various business agreement and proven experience in this domain.
  • Technical skills in Reinsurance sector are mandatory and in other aspects of compliance like AML, GDPR, KYC, and Internal control.
  • Experience in the SOX environment would be an advantage.
  • Highly analytical skills with strong attention to detail, excellent reading comprehension.
  • Good competencies in managing, mentoring, coaching, and supervision of Juniors, middle and senior officers.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Capacity to lead and organize a department within a small to medium-size enterprise.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and eager to learn.
  • Capable of delivering regular feedback and manage priorities.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Good oral communication and presentation skills, good writing capacities in English (fluent level required) like in French (at least B2 level);
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to summarize complex matters and report them to executive management and/or compliance group department.
